It was not long before I knew that Alexis Teklemariam would be a fast friend. More than six years ago, I had the privilege of meeting her after she agreed to help care for my elderly mother after her stay in the hospital. I met her at my mom’s bedside at a skilled care facility at the Cypress in Charlotte. She impressed me immediately with her compassionate and keen sense in knowing how to care for my mom. More than that, in our first conversation, I sensed she wanted to have a relationship with me, my family, but mostly my mom. I can’t begin to express the gratitude we have for Natalie and her ability to care for our elderly parents. My sister and I suddenly found ourselves in a difficult situation where our parents needed more care than we could provide and more than anything we wanted to keep them in their home. Having Natalie enter our lives and help care for our parents was like having another family member in the house. When my dad became grumpy and wouldn’t cooperate he would listen to Natalie!  Her sense of humor and light heartiness was just what he needed. Our mother loved her weekly visits. We were so grateful for her help organizing and helping her feel more settled which made mom’s day go more smoothly. She treated our parents with such sweet and tender care.
